Operation Rolling Thunder in Henry County

The Henry County Police Department will host the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Thunder Taskforce again this summer.  According to a recent press release, Taskforce officers will conduct safety belt and sobriety road checks and speed patrols while collecting enforcement data.

Last November, Operation Rolling Thunder in Henry County resulted in 50 arrests, of which 13 individuals were arrested for DUI, 11 were arrested for Violations of the Ga. Controlled Substances Act, 2 for outstanding criminal warrants, and 24 were arrested for other, criminal, motor, and vehicle infractions.

While we applaud the efforts to keep our roads safe, roadblocks can cause severe anxiety amongst many drivers.   Nerves, medical conditions and adrenaline can contribute to failed roadside tests and/or impulsive decisions.  And in Georgia, you can be arrested for DUI if your blood alcohol content (BAC) does not exceed the legal limit due to the "Less Safe" statute.

Are you nervous about encountering a roadblock?  Here’s valuable advice from an experienced Henry County DUI attorney who also spent six years in law enforcement (we originally posted that advice last November during the previous Operation Rolling Thunder effort, and it is still relevant today).  If you are arrested for a DUI, you need to act quickly.  There is a 10-day rule in Georgia, which means even if you were sober at the time of arrest, you still need to reach out to an experienced DUI attorney to schedule a hearing within 10 business days of your arrest.

If you have been arrested for Less Safe or DUI in Georgia, contact experienced criminal law attorney Christopher Chapman at cchapman@smithwelchlaw.com or call 770-389-4864.

Prior to his admission to the bar, Christopher Chapman spent six years in law enforcement and has experience of being a former prosecutor in Henry County State Court.
